Lib Dems have “wind in our sails” following historic by-election victory

Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP candidate for Harrogate & Knaresborough, has said the party’s victory in the Somerton and Frome by-election shows the party has the “wind in our sails” in the Lib Dems key blue wall target seats - which includes Harrogate & Knaresborough.

The Lib Dems overturned a massive Conservative majority of 19,000, with a swing of 29%. A swing just a fraction of the size to that seen last night in Somerset would see the Liberal Democrats gain Harrogate & Knaresborough from the Conservative Party at the next General Election.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Harrogate & Knaresborough, Tom Gordon said:

“The Liberal Democrats have the wind in our sails following last night’s stunning by-election win in Somerset. If that result was repeated here in Harrogate & Knaresborough during a General Election, we would be on course for a historic victory.

“People are sick & tired of this Conservative Government, & they are voting them out. "Another huge historic swing & win for the Lib Dems in Somerton & Frome proves that we can win in blue wall seats, like Harrogate & Knaresborough, where the Lib Dems are in 2nd.

“It’s clear that at the next election, it will be a two horse race here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives."
